Thermarest NeoAir Uberlite Review
The Thermarest NeoAir UberLite is only 250 grams for the regular size (just over half of a pound)! Therefore, it’s the lightest air-filled insulated sleeping pad on the market. In order to achieve this ultralight-weight, the UberLite utilizes an exterior fabric is a 15D nylon, which helps achieve its feather-like weight. Another way they save weight is their patented technology which utilizes two stacked layers of triangular baffles creating a stable sleeping surface that minimizes heat loss. In addition to the 2.5 inches of air cushioning, the UberLite has an insulation value of R-2.3.
This is great for backpacking when weight is an issue. Also it is super comfy compared to other pads I have purchased in the past. I think it is worth the money to be comfortable when camping.

Why does a sleeping pad need insulation?
Heat flows from warmer areas to cooler areas until there is no longer a temperature difference. So, if you are sleeping directly on a cold surface, the warmth of your body will flow to the cold ground. If you are sleeping directly on snow or ice, your temp will drop much faster than if you are on a warm sandy beach.
Dislikes?
I’ve used my Thermarest NeoAir UberLite on multiple backpacking missions over the summer, and I haven’t had a problem with punctures. But, with a 15D fabric you will need to be careful. As a result, Thermarest provides a patch kit if you do get a puncture. The only other downside is that the fabric is crinkly. So, if you are a light sleeper and your partner rolls around at night, it may wake you up.

Fit and Sizing
I use the long version, which is mummy shaped and 25 inches wide at the shoulders, and tapers down towards your feet. The length of the large is 77 inches, which is perfect for me since I’m 6’2″. Furthermore, the two stacked layers of triangular baffles are super comfortable. Especially if you are a side sleeper. As a result, the 2.5 inches of air-cushioning will provide your hips, shoulders, and elbows plenty of support and not poke the ground.
The other awesome thing about the Thermarest NeoAir Uberlite is that it barely takes any space in your pack (only .81 cubic liters). Once it’s rolled up, it’s about the size of your favorite 16-ounce coffee cup.
